PALMERSTON LOVES: THE NEXT GREAT THING...
HAY's flagship store in Copenhagen
Looking for great design in Copenhagen isn’t hard. After reveling in the chair exhibit at the Design Museum, my daughter Quinn and I (for whom I owe photo credits) went out looking to see if Copenhagen was resting on its’ design laurels. Hey, they certainly could…we seem to be leaning on their classic designs in North America!
We found that Jacobsen and Wegner aren’t living as ghosts in Copenhagen. It is truly design as evolution. One great example is the reimagining of the traditional porcelain patterns at Royal Copenhagen. Take your grandma’s china and make it modern!
A traditional pattern manufactured in Denmark for hundreds of years.
A modern take in charcoal.
We also happened upon HAY, a relatively new company (founded 2003) that is certainly on the forefront of design.
Fun throw cushions at HAY.
While we are somewhat familiar with their product at Palmerston (many pieces can be purchased online in Canada through The Modern Shop) it hasn’t received the North American accolades it deserves.
Note the Nelson Bubble lamp in the foreground.
A collection of great chairs.
A company that relishes in young new designers through contests and talent awards, it is wonderful to see a Danish company support this thriving community.
Coffee tables with handles!
Pepper grinders guarding Copenhagen.

Check out what we saw in their flagship store in the beautiful Copenhagen. You might just see the next Danish classic.
